KUALA LUMPUR – A soldier given a dishonourable discharge for refusing the Covid-19 vaccine may be reinstated if he changes his mind and decides to get inoculated, said army chief Gen Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain.
In the meantime, the decision to dismiss the soldier stands, he told the press here today.
Zamrose said the soldier has undergone four counselling sessions after refusing the jab, but has yet to change his mind.
“The army will consider reinstating him if he is willing to get vaccinated. I am confident that government officials are taking the appropriate action.
“We will respond to the soldier accordingly.”
He said the army is 86,000 strong, and that he does not want negative implications for other members stemming from just one who refuses the jab.
It was reported that the soldier, with the rank of sergeant, was given a dishonourable discharge for refusing to get the Covid-19 shot, resulting in him being disqualified from receiving a pension. – Bernama, August 25, 2021
